Previous Questions:

Q: Do you use instruments for adjustments or hand? Atlas orthogonal? I had a chiropractor in Illinois who was trained in Atlas orthogonal and adjustments were generally very gentle. - Kristen

A: Hello Kristen,

You have asked a very good question because it important to know what techniques your chiropractor uses. Our office is very versatile with techniques. We use a hand held instrument called an activator which is a form of the Atlas orthogonal style. The Atlas technique only treats the upper neck and in my opinion can limit the other parts of the spine. The atlas is the first vertebra in the neck and is a very important bone because it is at the brain stem. Other manual cranial/sacral techniques , soft tissue release , and also gentle mobilization osseous styles can address this area as well. Our patients are encouraged to communicate with us with what they respond to best because every patient is unique. We treat the whole spine because we want the entire nervous system to function at 100%! Over my 30 years of practice, I have learned and utilized the latest studies of chiropractic care. We like to say that we are "eclectic" combining many techniques in one treatment. Effectiveness and gentleness is our desire. We do not claim only "one" technique. We treat all ages and also incorporate other advance therapies that include massage, exercise and nutrition. We would love to have the opportunity to help you!

Sincerely,
Dr. Merritt

Q: Do you help with migraines and what do you do? - Charity from Charlotte, NC

A: Hi Charity,

Thank you for your question! Suffering from migraines can be one of the most debilitating disorders because many conventional approaches do not get to the cause of the problem. Pain relievers are not the answer. There are many different reasons of why someone is afflicted by this condition. The avenues I try to detect is to see if it is a Structural, Chemical or Emotional issue - sometimes it's all three. Our office will help determine this. We will analyze the Structural via a chiropractic exam to see if it is a pinched nerve. We will find if it is a muscle spasm and/or a trigger point. We will see if you have a bio-mechanical imbalance. Then we will check recent blood work and dietary habits. You may have deficiencies or weakened systems. The endocrine (adrenals, thyroid, etc.) can also be dysfunctional. If you have a sluggish liver or gall bladder you may have signs of toxicity. Lastly, stress and coping skills can cause migraines. Migraines are affected by the gastrointestinal system too. Food or environmental allergies can be a culprit. The body works as a whole and I believe it should be treated as a whole. Many supplements, dietary changes and therapies such as chiropractic or acupuncture have helped many of my patients. Please call us and let's have a consultation to see how we can help you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Merritt

Q: I moved here from Long Island, New York 2 months ago and I was seeing an acupuncturist that also did NAET. This helped my medical conditions improve greatly. I am interested in your approach and if you practice NAET. - Denise

A: Dear Denise,

I am very familiar with NAET. I have studied and applied the techniques with many of my patients. It is a form of non needle acupuncture and uses the connection that travels through the meridian pathways. I have 30 years of experience and am able to provide a holistic approach for you, however, I am not certified in NAET. I use many different forms of acupuncture that will help with allergies, brain function and more. Please call for a consultation and I will be happy to help answer more questions.

Sincerely,
Dr. Merritt
